Former Erewash Sound Academy students collect honours at 2019 Community Radio Awards

Erewash Sound is collectively celebrating once more after two presenters picked up honours at the 2019 Community Radio Awards.

It’s a particularly proud moment for the Erewash Sound Academy as both presenters are graduates of the Academy’s Radio Presenter Training course. It also marks the third year in a row that presenters trained in the Erewash Sound Academy have won at the Awards.

The annual event was held at the Memo Arts Centre, Barry in South Wales with a large delegation of presenters, friends and family attending the ceremony on Saturday 26th October.

Former student and now Erewash Sound presenter, Lewis Allsopp, collected the bronze award in the Newcomer of the Year category. Meanwhile, Emma Snow was the Gold award winner of the Best Young Presenter title.

Collecting her gold award, Emma particularly thanked Station Manager and Adacemy trainer, Jeff Martin, who she described as the “the most amazing man I have ever worked with. He believed me from the start when I said that I wanted to be a presenter.”

The Awards event itself was co-hosted by Mark Jarvis, himself a previous Academy student and winner of last year’s Gold Award for Best Male Presenter.

Erewash Sound submitted a total of 17 entries for the 2019 awards which resulted in a total of six nominations in five categories.  The other Erewash Sound award nominees were:

  • Female Presenter of the Year: Jeannie Nicolas
  • Male Presenter of the Year: Paul Stacey
  • Entertainment Show of the Year: The Jeannie Nicolas Show
  • Young Person of the Year (under 25): Tom Lamb

Nominees Jeannie and Tom are also former students at the Erewash Sound Academy who have both since gone on to present regular shows on the station.

The news of the awards success comes just weeks after the radio station handed out its first NCFE accreditation to Academy students and was also announced as ‘Best Local Commercial Radio Station in the East Midlands’ in the Midlands Enterprise Awards.
